No, it wasn't the first day in April.
I read about it on my Birthday and I have to admit it felt like an additional present as I chuckled away as I read and watched about this FF in the making. It also answered a question I have (very, very occasionally) pondered. In my favourite story the hero meets a CIA agent who always times how long he takes to pee. He then carefully writes it in his note book for posterity.
(prizes for the first to tell me which book!)
But the author doesn't tell us the actual time taken.
BUT NOW I KNOW!
- Science tells me it probably took around 21 seconds (or there abouts).
Before I explain further, you should watch a video

So here's the curious thing, for medium to very large animals - the length of urination stays pretty much constant whether the bladder can hold around a litre or over 100 litres, it can be emptied in around 20 seconds.
It seems that as the volume goes up, so does both the width of the urethra and its length, both of which increase the speed at which pee is, well, peed, and these factors almost exactly match the increased volume! How bizarre.
Disclaimer: I went to the zoo on Sunday, and no I didn't take a stop watch, but yes, I wish I had!
